Gateshead Intermediate Orchestral Strings

Gateshead Intermediate Orchestral Strings (GIOS) is a string orchestra that provides valuable experience of playing music as part of an ensemble and helps to develop musicianship skills. It is also an opportunity to meet like minded musicians, make new friends and work together in a friendly and supportive environment.
All string players – violinists, violists, ‘cellists and double bass players – are very welcome to join this orchestra. It is especially suitable for musicians working towards grades 1, 2, 3 or 4 (or equivalent standard).

GIOS is run by experienced string teachers from Gateshead Schools’ Music Service and plays a wide range of music, with parts to suit all abilities. The orchestra regularly performs at local concerts.

The usual fees for a Gateshead Schools’ Music Service ensemble apply, payable after an initial ‘try-out’ session. There is no charge to students who receive free school meals.

Rehearsal time: every Thursday, 4.15pm to 5.30pm during term time

Venue: Dryden Centre, Gateshead.
