Bursaries
The Gateshead Music Trust Bursary Programme is designed to support families from socio-economically diverse backgrounds in accessing high-quality music education. As a registered charity, Gateshead Music Trust operates independently of Gateshead Council, with all applications reviewed at quarterly trustee meetings held in September, December, March, and June.
The bursary is intended specifically for music tuition delivered through Gateshead Music Hub and its partner organisations, ensuring that all provision has been appropriately vetted for safeguarding and health & safety standards. To maintain accountability, Gateshead Music Trust reserves the right to request receipts or invoices as evidence of how the bursary funding has been used.
The total bursary fund is limited to £2,000 per annum. Bursaries typically range from £250 to £500.
Applicants must be resident in Gateshead. Priority will be given to families who meet one or more of the following criteria:
In receipt of Universal Credit or Free School Meals
Care-experienced children or young people
Larger families with multiple dependants
Young people demonstrating a strong interest in pursuing music as a potential career
Applicants who can provide a clear statement of the impact music has on the young person
A supporting reference from the child’s current tuition provider
The programme aims to reduce financial barriers and ensure that young people can continue to develop their musical skills in a safe, supportive, and high-quality learning environment. The Trust is committed to enabling access to music for those who may otherwise face barriers to participation.
As funding is limited, all applications are carefully assessed, and awards are made based on both eligibility and demonstrated need.
