Gateshead Music Service is a trusted provider, working with over 90% of schools in Gateshead to deliver high‑quality music education for all, an essential component of a broad and ambitious curriculum. Our programmes are knowledge-rich and robust, ensuring music is taught as rigorously as any other foundation subject.

We proudly enrich our learners’ cultural capital, reflecting the new Ofsted emphasis on equipping pupils with the essential knowledge and experiences for future success. We support every young person to be stretched and challenged, supporting a full arts enrichment entitlement across primary and secondary phases.

As part of the local authority, we uphold stringent safeguarding procedures and employ rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure excellence in every school setting. Our aim: a 100% school satisfaction rate, backed by continuous evaluation, improvement, and system leadership that aligns with national priorities.

    Whole Class Ensemble Tuition

    Children get the chance to learn an instrument as part of a whole class and develop fundamental skills and gain knowledge in line with the Model Music Curriculum. Whole class instruments currently include: djembe, ukulele, samba drumming, steel pan, violin, guitar, ocarina, recorder, tuned percussion, keyboard, iPad.

    Small Group and Individual Tuition

    Children and young people have the chance to learn instruments in smaller groups or 1 to 1 progressing their playing to the next level. This is usually designed for children and young people who show passion and potential for music following Whole Class lessons.

    The Workshop Team offer schools a live music experience for large groups which combines performance with participation.
