Cup Rhythms: Part 1
Lesson 2
This second lesson of the cup rhythms activity is a recap of the first lesson to make sure all the children are confident with the activity and know what to do. The aim of this session is to successfully perform the ‘a la lata’ chant and cup rhythm.
Preparation:
Check and watch each of the video links and check they work and you understand each task.
Lessons can be desk based or could work in a larger space.
Have white boards and pens or paper for each person in the group.
You’ll need one cup per person.
Have a means to record performances
Activity 1 - Warm up
Pass The Cup Level 1 – 5 mins
Attempt to play pass the cup game at full speed along with the video.
Make sure children are facing a partner or in a circle and can pass cup easily.
Follow the video and join in.
Activity 2 - Recap
A la lata al latero (Rob’s Kitchen Tutorial) and practice - 12 min
Make sure the children know the lyrics to song before attempting the full activity

A la lima al limón
A la hija de Don Simón
Watch video and join in.
Children should now practice in small groups without the video.
Activity - 3 - Perform
Recording a Video – 10 mins
Check all the children are fully confident with the lyrics and passing the cup
Groups take it in turns to perform to the rest of the class.
The groups should demonstrate playing the rhythm and the chant keeping a steady beat and being able to coordinate movements.
Activity 4 - Time to reflect - 5mins
Think back over the activity:
What went well?
What did you find challenging?
Are there any specific things you would need to improve on or would you like to praise anyone in your class?
